As May 1st gets closer, many Pakistanis are excited to know if Labor Day will be a public holiday this year. Although it’s marked as a day off, the government hasn’t officially said anything yet.
According to the Cabinet Division’s 2024 circular, May 1st is supposed to be a public holiday. It’s expected that the government will announce that schools nationwide will be closed on this day. Offices, both private and public, in provinces like Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and other areas are also likely to shut down.
The State Bank of Pakistan is probably going to declare May 1st a bank holiday, in line with the tradition of recognizing International Labor Day.

International Labor Day is celebrated on May 1st around the world. It’s a day dedicated to honoring the hard work and rights of workers and acknowledging their role in nation-building.
Although signs point to May 1st being a public holiday, it’s advisable to wait for an official announcement from the government.
