In a meeting at the Prime Minister House, Shehbaz Sharif and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari chose governors for Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), and Balochistan. Though the official details haven’t been announced, insiders revealed the selections.
For Punjab, Sardar Salem Haider was picked, while Faisal Kareem Kundi and Jaffar Mandokhail were chosen for K-P and Balochistan respectively. These decisions reflect the parties’ prior agreements on power-sharing. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) had earlier settled on sharing various government roles.
While the PPP secured the President, Senate chairman, and some governorships, the PML-N got the prime minister and other key positions. Despite expectations, the PPP remains hesitant about joining the federal cabinet, maintaining their stance from before the alliance formed. Reports about their entry into the cabinet remain speculative, with no official confirmation from either party.
My Opinion: It seems like Shehbaz Sharif and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s meeting was a significant step in cementing their political collaboration. The choice of governors aligns with the agreed-upon power-sharing arrangement between the PML-N and the PPP. However, the PPP’s reluctance to join the federal cabinet might hint at underlying tensions or strategic considerations within the alliance.
