pakistanis face continuing inflation strain as sngpl proposes major gas price surge

Residents of Pakistan are confronting persistent inflationary pressures, with Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) now advocating for a substantial rise in gas tariffs. According to reports from local media outlets, the Sui Northern Gas company has put forth a proposal for the third gas price hike in 2024.

Insiders familiar with the situation have disclosed to the media that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is scheduled to convene a hearing on gas prices on March 25, 2024. In its latest proposal, Sui Northern has suggested an increase to Rs 4,489 per mmbtu.

Should this proposal be approved, consumers could expect a significant surge in their Sui gas bills, with an estimated average rise of 155%. This impending hike adds to the economic challenges already faced by Pakistanis due to inflation.
