Pressure Mounts on Babar Azam to Relinquish Captaincy After World Cup Letdown

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly pushing Babar Azam to resign as captain after Pakistan’s underwhelming performance in the World Cup 2023. There are whispers that the PCB is hoping for Babar to voluntarily step aside from his role.

However, it seems that the current management committee of the PCB lacks the power to forcibly remove individuals from their positions if they refuse to resign. As per the mandate of the management committee, the terms of any new appointments cannot exceed the tenure of the PCB’s Management Committee itself.

Inzamam-ul-Haq and Morne Morkel opted to resign, enabling the PCB to name their successors. However, the authority to remove Babar Azam, Micky Arthur, or Grant Bradburn does not lie within their jurisdiction. Furthermore, replacing the team’s manager is also beyond their scope.
