Punjab Enforces Section 144 for One Week Amid Protest Concerns

punjab enforces section 144 for one week amid protest concerns

The Punjab Home Department has enforced Section 144 across the entire province for seven days. This measure is in response to PTI’s call for a nationwide protest at 2 PM today to defend the integrity of the vote.

The orders from the Punjab Home Department state that Section 144 will be in place from June 21 to June 27.

The Home Department has indicated that, given the current public order and security threats in the province, any large public gathering could be an easy target for terrorists and troublemakers. This situation poses a significant threat to law and order. Consequently, from June 21 to June 27, all types of gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, processions, protests, meetings, and similar activities are banned in Punjab.

My Opinion:

I believe the decision to impose Section 144 is a necessary step to ensure public safety. While it restricts the right to assemble, the potential threat to citizens’ safety justifies this temporary measure. It is crucial to prioritize security and prevent any incidents that could endanger lives.
